| Avoid this ‘basically’ A youngster came to my office, the other day, for a marketing job. Though I did not need a person I thought of talking to him.
In a way, I started interviewing him and he came under the impression that I might hire him.
My first question was to find out his line of interest, what sort of a job he was looking for. He started with saying that he was capable of doing accounts job, recruitment job, computer job etc. but ‘basically’ he was interested in a marketing job.
To my question about his education qualifications he started with his school career, then his college and the special courses that he had done to ‘basically’ make him most suitable for the marketing job.
On being questioned as to from where he hailed, he started giving the geographical location, which ‘basically’ was located in state A.
I just want to bring to attention that in the short time that he spent with me I lost count as to how many times he used the word ‘basically’. We have to take care that when we go out in the market seeking a job we must be very careful with our language use. We have to be careful on each sentence that we use. Using of words like ‘basically’, ‘primarily’ or phrases like ‘the point is..’, ‘to tell you the truth..’, etc. repeatedly annoys the person interviewing. - Vijay Maroo |
